Job Description: Music Director, Pianist/Organist
This position is designed to enhance the music ministry of Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The Music Director has a special and impactful role as a member of the worship planning team, as selector of suitable service music, leading the choirs, and providing piano and organ during scheduled worship services, for special services (Lent and Advent) or events (e.g. weddings, funerals). This is a part-time position, combined music director and accompanist.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Collaborate with pastor to choose music for worship that enhances the message for Sunday services and special programs.
  • Plan and provide suitable music selections for all regularly scheduled worship services, special services and church holidays as directed.
  • Participate on Worship Committee to plan worship details.
  • Select and purchase music that is appropriate for use in the service and within the abilities of the musicians and budget. Maintain music library. 
  • Provide piano accompaniment for the congregation and choir during Sunday morning 10:30 AM worship service and weekly vocal choir and hand chime choir rehearsals.  Musical offerings on Sunday may include hymns, anthems, special music, prelude, offertory, postlude, recessional, response, and communion music.  Accompany choirs and soloists that perform during worship.
  • Conduct weekly choir rehearsals. Plays, teaches and practices musical selection with choir.
  • Schedule maintenance and tuning of pianos and organ.
  • Provides music selections to Church Secretary for weekly bulletin in a timely manner.
  • Experience leading volunteer singers and musicians in a wide variety of musical presentationsand teach practical music on various levels to the volunteer choir members. Experience in leading a Hand Chime group would be a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Christian worship practices with exceptional music skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Has a good ear for pitch and rhythm, with a working knowledge of conducting. Demonstrated proficiency in piano accompaniment experience required; organ accompaniment preferred.
  • Available to work during work hours established; standard hours - Wednesday night choir rehearsals and Sunday services.
